Find a Property in France with Google Maps

Ever since the very first Google Maps mashup HousingMaps there have been many real-estate applications built with the Google Maps API.

Affidata.co.uk however is the first Estate Agent (Realtor) locator I have seen. The application allows users to find English speaking real-estate agents in France.

It is possible to search the map by location and to set a radius within which to search. Once the English speaking agents are added to the map it is possible to click the map markers to open an information window with the name, address, telephone and the website of the agent.

Foreclosure for Google Maps Real Estate

Google Maps users in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan until now have been able to search for real estate directly on Google Maps. However Google today announced that they are removing real estate results from Google Maps.

The search giant gives two main reasons behind the removal, low usage and the impending retirement of the Google Base API. Real estate will be discontinued on Google Maps on February 10, 2011.

Viewing Foreclosures on Google Maps

Foreclosures in Detroit

For a long time in the United States you have been able to view real-estate for sale on Google Maps. When searching for property on Google Maps one of the options is to view 'Foreclosures'.

At the end of 2009, more than 13% of US homeowners were either delinquent or in foreclosure. This worrying fact is all too apparent when you use Google Maps to view foreclosures.

The Big Picture has been looking at a number of areas on Google Maps to assess the impact of the downturn on people's homes.

In 2008 USAToday also used the illustrative power of Google Maps and the public records of the foreclosures to highlight the impact the foreclosures are having on Denver.

Each of the houses that have been foreclosed is shaded red on the USAToday produced map.

New York's Worst Landlords Mapped

NYC's Worst Landlords Watchlist

I wish this Google Map had been around when I was still renting. It is one of the best examples of open data I have seen, allowing New Yorkers to check if a landlord has housing code violations before renting.

New York's Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has launched a campaign, called Watchlist, to identify, track, and hold accountable New York City’s most irresponsible landlords. The campaign includes a searchable database and a Google Map of landlords' outstanding housing code violations identified by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Users can search the map by landlord name or by borough. Users can also use the map to report additional violations by a landlord or to report the resolving of a violation.
